NFPA 86C: Standard for Industrial Furnaces Using a Special Processing Atmosphere provides requirements for safeguarding against fire and explosion hazards in industrial furnaces using flammable or special processing atmospheres (Class C furnaces). This standard includes many common safety requirements, also covered by NFPA 86, such as for location, construction, heating system, safety equipment, testing, maintenance and fire protection. NFPA 86C includes design requirements and procedures for various types of furnaces to allow the safe introduction, operation and removal of these special atmospheres. The standard also provides safety requirements for the generation, storage and use of special atmosphere gases.
