Help wildland firefighters keep their PPE in excellent shape with the new NFPA 1877, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Wildland Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment.
Wildland firefighters face many fire hazards and dangers when they are helping the public. Their personal protective equipment (PPE) can help keep them safe when they are facing fire emergencies—so it is critical that their PPE be properly cared for and prepared for any situation. NFPA 1877, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Wildland Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment, is a new standard that was created to specify the requirements for wildland firefighting protective clothing and equipment that are compliant with NFPA 1977, Standard on Protective Clothing and Equipment for Wildland Fire Fighting and Urban Interface Fire Fighting. The gear covered in this safety standard includes garments, helmets, gloves, footwear, face/neck shrouds, goggles, chain saw protection, and load-carrying equipment.
Help ensure that the protective clothing and equipment that wildland firefighters use is maintained and cared for properly.
NFPA 1877, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Wildland Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment, was created to establish basic criteria for the selection, inspection, cleaning, decontamination, repair, storage, and retirement of wildland firefighting protective clothing and equipment. Help wildland firefighters utilize these new requirements to reduce the safety risks and health hazards associated with poorly maintained, contaminated, or damaged protective clothing and equipment.
