About This Product

Be confident in emergency vehicle performance and reliability with the 2017 edition of NFPA 1911.

Conduct timely inspection, maintenance, and in-service testing of emergency vehicles to ensure prompt, reliable response and protect personnel on board. Apply the new NFPA 1911, Inspection, Maintenance, Testing, and Retirement of In-Service Emergency Vehicles when developing a program for vehicle care.

Renamed for the 2017 edition, NFPA 1911 is updated and revised with a broader scope.

The term “fire apparatus” is replaced with “emergency vehicle” throughout the document to make requirements more inclusive and applicable to more than just fire apparatus. Other revisions include:

  • A new chapter for the patient compartment of ambulances, for application alongside NFPA 1917, Standard for Automotive Ambulances
  • A new chapter with requirements for trailers
  • Changes that make the Standard consistent with NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus and NFPA 1906, Standard for Wildland Fire Apparatus
  • New requirements for ultra-high-pressure pumps (UHPs)
  • Explanatory information stating that NFPA 1911 requirements can apply to vehicles with a GVWR less than 5001 lb, if the AHJ so chooses
  • Revisions in the chapter addressing daily/weekly checks, to ensure code and standard consistency as well as address currently accepted practices
  • Changes to the tire load and speed rating of tires used on emergency vehicles to ensure the correct tires are being used based on application
  • New requirements that wildland fire pumps and UHPs testing be done at least annually and when any listed repair is performed

Staying up-to-code with NFPA 1911 is essential for mechanics, maintenance shop supervisors, and testing company personnel — anyone responsible for inspecting, servicing, or testing emergency vehicles. (Print, Approx. 108 pp., 2017)
